Its gone...well almost

Last night, my hair officially started falling out. I pulled and out it came. I said from the begining that once it started falling out, then I would cut it. I didnt want to deal with large clumps falling out-its way too emotional. So now that the time was here, I started having second thoughts. Im not ready to completly shave it...so I compromised.

Mac, my moms hairdresser, told her that once it started falling out, then call him and he would cut it for me-for free. He is such a nice man. We called him this morning and he got me right in. I really didnt have any idea of what I wanted, so I just let him do what he wanted.

This is Mac telling me that shorter is better. I had to tell him that I didnt agree.

He didnt care!!
And off it goes!!

Holy cow...is it too late to turn back now?!

And here it is!!! Yikes. Please dont laugh at me if you see me on the street!
Its a cute cut, and he did such a good job, I just feel like a boy or a 50 year old mom. Not so cute with the short hair, but this is a good in between and it will let me get used to what is to come. I guess having some hair is better than having none!!

I think the shaving party will be this weekend sometime. Im hoping that cutting it will help me keep it for a few more days. We shall see!!

I have to say that it looks like your moms, espcially when she was young and newly married (only she didn't have short hair). But you get the point, I love it.

The cut looks darling on you, Shelly! There are LOTS of perks to super short hair, and you are way too gorgeous to look like a boy (or a 50 year old). Miss seeing you around the neighborhood. Netell

I can understand your hesitations to shave, just know that I think you totally have the face to pull off the shaved look. Just think back to all those times when we were kiddos and swam/dove, when you came out of the water your hair was pure slicked back, it looked the same as if it was shaved and you still looked like a rock star- yup, U will totally ROCK it! I am glad you are feeling better. I still think about you all the time. Next time I come to AZ we will have to hang.
Love ya!

Hi Shellie,
My name is Kathy and I am a friend of Annie's and the Valentine family and I am about a year ahead of you in my breast cancer experience. I had cancer in both breasts and several lymph nodes but nothing in the bones or organs and staged at 3B. That was in February last year and I now have completed the treatments, surgery, and as far as we know am cancer free--and I feel great! Denial worked well for me--I only wanted to know what I had to do next and as far as getting sick during the treatments, I assumed that I wouldn't and for the most part, I wasn't. I tried to keep things as normal as I could, which was often hard because my husband is a physician and an alarmist. In looking back, much of the past year is totally blurred--sort of like childbirth, as time passes you forget about the hard part and just remember the joyous blessing that came from it all. For me, this past year has been extraordinary--so much to be grateful for--rich blessings, wonderful people whose prayers and kindness have made this quite possibly the best year of my life. I wish you well in your cancer journey--by now you know that there are so many people remembering you in their
prayers, who have been and will be there when you need them, who bless your life beyond what you could ever imagine--doesn't get much better than that. Take care--you're in my prayers.

I didn't just "come from Annie's blog" - I'm Annie's sister. Does that make me special? (And did I meet you when I was in Moscow?)

Anyhow, the hair's adorable, you don't look like you could possibly have all those children, and what can I say? You're a rock star.

(And seriously - thanks for sharing. This blog is outstanding).

That is a beautiful haircut. When my daughter 'Fiona' started chemo, we had never cut her hair and she was almost 5. We had quite the laughing fit about how all of her hair killed my vacuum. We put off shaving her head because she wore a lot of hats and the stragglers underneath the hats made it look like her hair was just up in the hat. Good luck with the chemo. You can do it!
